Basic sailing equipment and accessories – don’t go on a cruise without it!
It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Are you planning a sailing trip to spice up your vacation this year? If it is your first cruise, you face a difficult task of completing the equipment of a novice sailor.

What clothes should you take for sailing?

First of all, comfortable. However, clothes comfortable on land will not necessarily be comfortable while sailing. Check our list of clothes necessary on a sailing boat.

Jacket and pants – stormwear is welcome
Even if you go sailing in the summer, you should pack a windproof and waterproof jacket. Ideally, it should reach behind your buttocks. It should have a hood and high collar to protect you from strong winds and driving rain.

Storm pants will be invaluable in rainy weather. On cold days, they are best worn over leggings or tracksuits, and during the summer rain, they work great over shorts. They are thin, but they do not soak through with water – it is worth to get them before the first cruise.

Fleece, warm sweatshirt – do not forget to pack them for sailing
Nights on the water can be cold even in summer! Therefore it is ideal to pack a warm sweatshirt or fleece.

A hat for sailing
If you are going sailing in the summer, you should definitely pack a baseball cap. Make sure it fits snugly on your head or is attached with a string so it won’t get blown away by the wind. On cold days during your cruise, be sure to wear a thicker hat that covers your ears and sinuses.

Gloves
When going sailing, it’s a good idea to get sailing gloves to protect your hands from abrasion. On cold days, you’ll also find cotton gloves useful to protect your hands from the chill.

Underwear
We recommend thermal underwear for cold weather. If you are going sailing in the peak heat, thermal underwear will be unnecessary. You only need to pack comfortable underwear that dries quickly.

What shoes to pack for sailing?

Ideally, you should pack shoes with a rubber sole. Make sure they are flat. Comfortable athletic shoes are best. It is important that they are not slippery. If they dry quickly, you’ve got the perfect sailing shoes! Remember to bring flip-flops – we strongly discourage walking on deck in them, but they will come in handy in the shower.

Sunglasses

On sunny days, sunglasses come in handy when sailing. The sun reflects off the surface of the water and glares strongly. It is advisable to protect your eyes.

What cosmetics should I pack for sailing?

In addition to standard cosmetics, which you use every day, it is necessary to pack a cream with a high UV filter. It is also a good idea to take a mosquito repellent.

What accessories to take on a cruise?

It is a good idea to take basic accessories on a sailing trip, just like any other trip. It is a good idea to take the following with you on a cruise:
– a phone charger,
– powerbank,
– flashlight,
– binoculars,
– pocket knife,
– a waterproof case for your phone and money,
– a sleeping bag,
– a sailing bag – it’s ideal for packing things for sailing because it doesn’t take up much space in the cabin.

Is it necessary to take your life jacket on the sails?

No, every sailboat must be equipped with life jackets for the whole crew and with lifebuoys. Of course, there is nothing stopping you from bringing your own. It’s a good idea to pack your own life jacket if it will enhance your sense of security while sailing.

Before you set sail

Remember to bring a good mood with you. On your first cruise, you will learn many new concepts and skills. Although it sounds cliché – it’s a good idea to be open to new things and take an active role in sailing, because it really is a lot of fun!
