Spot baiting – when is it worth using this method?
It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

A small fishing area and the right bait can be very useful in carp fishing. Learn the rules of using the spot baiting method and check on which waters it will be the most effective.

What is spot baiting?

This method is based on placing bait in exactly fixed, small point. It means that fishing will take place on relatively small area of water. Spot baiting works best in small bodies of water, which are well known to the angler. A low water level is also helpful, then it is easier to assess the carp’s feeding area. The bait is placed in the water and waits for the fish to come. Spot baiting is an ideal fishing method for people who don’t have time to sit for a long time. Properly prepared bait can attract animals in a short time and quickly end in a successful catch.

What materials should I use?

Water-soluble materials are needed for effective spot baiting. The most commonly used materials include nets, bags, tunnels, tubes or sleeves. Each item should be made of PVA material, a vinyl polymer that dissolves easily in water and does not contaminate the water body. The decomposition time of the material in summer, in high temperature water, is about a few seconds. In the winter, with much poorer conditions, this process can take longer. The ideal weather conditions in which the method is most effective is spring, when the water temperature is lower and the fish do not feed intensively. PVA tunnels protect the net from moisture and make it easier to put the lure inside. The cost of the whole set is about 50 zlotys. Instead of professional equipment, you can also spill prepared bait in the water, but you have to reckon with the risk that the catch may be less successful.

Where should I use this method?

Spot baiting requires a small fishing area, so small bodies of water are perfect. The key element of choosing a spot is proper knowledge of its specifics. The angler must correctly estimate the area where carp feed and start fishing there. Such places include waters with underwater vegetation and submerged trees. The method can also be used effectively around reeds.

Knowledge of the water substrate and the specifics of a particular body of water will generate how to use the point technique. There is a different way to fish in a silted reservoir and a different way to fish in a large area where the substrate is overgrown. If there is a lot of silt on the bottom of the reservoir, in which fishing takes place, the bait placed in the water should be light, so that it does not sink to the bottom. In this case prepared earlier equipment should have more air in it, thanks to that it will not settle too fast. In case of an overgrown tank, baiting should take place on a larger area. The groundbait should be placed in the nearest points.

How to prepare the right groundbait?

The mixture, which consists of many ingredients, should be first thoroughly mixed dry. The most important stage of preparation is moistening, from which depends the consistency and work of the groundbait. To properly prepared bait one should gradually pour water in small quantities and all the time stir vigorously. It’s best to perform this process with hands, so that you can collect the material also from the bottom and check the moisture of the mixture.

After preparing the groundbait you should put it aside for a few minutes and check if its moisture level hasn’t changed. Prepared groundbait can be pressed through the sieve, thanks to that it will be uniformly moist and smooth and all dry and mixed elements will stay on the sieve. If it is not possible to use a sieve, you can rub the material in your hands to eliminate any lumps. The prepared mixture should be formed into balls and placed in a net. You can use corn, oatmeal, potatoes, bran, powdered sugar and worms to create an effective mixture when fishing for carp using the spot-baiting method.
